Participate in a hands-on workshop using plant materials and flowers.

This workshop will be presented by the Sakonnet Arts Network as part of the “Green Arts” Series.

August 1st - Family Nature Walk
Enjoy a walk in the woods adjacent to Pardon Gray. This will be a great opportunity to enjoy the coolness of the woods on a summer day and discover some of nature’s hidden treasures. The instructor will share her knowledge of the plant life and natural history of t he area. You will be surprised at what you will learn and can impress your friends the next time you take a walk in the woods. Walk will be brief (approx. 45 min. round-trip) and pace will be moderate. Please wear sturdy shoes or sneakers. Bug spray will be available for those who would like it. Adult must accompany child/children.

This workshop will be presented by Laura Mello, co-owner of Mello’s Farm Stand, Instructor of Ecology at Bristol Community College, and Mom to Sarah, 9, and Cooper, 5.. She enjoys the outdoors and taking nature walks with her family.

August 8th - Nutritional Cooking
This demonstration will be presented by Jillian Ouhrabka, a Community Nutritional Educator, on behalf of URI SNAP-ed/Farm Fresh RI.

August 15th - Natural Dyed yarns & Weaving Demonstrations
This is a hands-on event demonstrating the use of local wools and dyes. Some of the dyes will be prepared using locally-grown vegetables. This workshop is appropriate for both children and adults.

It is part of the 'Green Arts Series' and will be presented by Paula Becker of the Sakonnet Arts Network and Laura Mello of Mello's Farm Stand.

August 29th - Family Nutrition
Kids can be picky eaters and it’s often difficult for them to get the nutrition they need from everyday meals. We will go over the nutritional needs of children and discuss ways to make nutritious meals that the whole family will enjoy. Handouts will be provided. We will then give the kids some hands-on experience preparing a nutritious snack that will be fun to make and good to eat. No peanuts, tree nuts, or nut products will be used in food preparation. If there are any other allergy concerns, please speak with the instructor directly before the workshop. Adult must attend with child/ children.

This workshop will be presented by Laura Mello, co-owner of Mello’s Farm Stand, Instructor of Nutrition at Bristol Community College, and mom to Sarah, age 9, and Cooper, age 5. Laura enjoys preparing meals for her family and teaching nutrition to kids of all ages.

September 12th - Simmons Farm Petting Zoo
Bring your children to enjoy a hands on experience with the animals from Simmons Farm.

September 19th - Print Making Workshop
This event will consist of a hands-on workshop using garden vegetables in print making.

Chef demonstration: James Campagna
James is the award winning executive Chef at the Boathouse Restaurant in Tiverton. He will demonstrate the use of local, fresh produce in delicious culinary dishes.
